Happy Mother's Day Bonesmokers
Yesterday I went to Kansas City. Yes, family time. I got to hear my aunt talk about her belief in the accuracy of psychics. In a nutshell: "I like that one on the Sci-Fi Channel. Those people try to tell her she's wrong, but she just turns around and tells them things about themselves that no one could know." I have resigned myself to the fact that any persuasion toward a reasonable explanation would be futile.
Today, I went to lunch with Whites. She is great. We went to the new and improved Bangkok Gardens...delicious. We talked about women in higher education and how difficult it can be. Although she is encouraging, it was discouraging to hear how women kind of get the shaft. She was alarmed by former students not pursuing master's degrees, perhaps, because of the pressure that many don't feel to continue their educations when compared to men. I think she may have given me the best advice about womanhood and the professional world that I have ever received: "You can either work and compete with all of the women or you can run with the men, be a complete pig, and deny your womanhood." Brilliant!
